The Mercedes E-class estate will cost from ￡29,785 - with all levels carrying a ￡1750 premium over the equivalent saloon.
TheE-class estate is being hailed for its class-leading load capacity. Ithas 695 litres of space with the rear seats up and 1950 litres with theseats down, which is 266 litres more than the new BMW 5-series GT.There is an additional 112 litres of load space under the car's floor.
Thecar comes with rear self-levelling air suspension as standard, becauseof its capacity for large, heavy loads, Mercedes says.
It goes onsale with a choice of seven engines: three diesels and four petrols.Fuel consumption and emissions are down by as much as 33.3 per centcompared with the outgoing equivalents.
A fourth diesel optionwill be added in June, the E350 Bluetec, which is being billed as theworld’s cleanest diesel engine, as it already meets EU6 standards thatcome into effect in 2014.
It significantly reduces pollutants,and especially nitrogen oxides, by injecting a water-based ureasolution into the exhaust flow.
The car is available in threetrim levels: SE, Avantgarde and Sport. Standard safety kit includes adrowsiness detection system, a pedestrian protection system andadaptive high-beam assistance.
