Yes, it is a good news for Liverpool and the price is very reasonable for a star performer in World Cup 2010.
Raul Meireles is a terrific signing. Personally, I don't think he is the replacement of Masch, he should be better than Masch. It is because Meireles is an all-rounded central midfielder. He can be combative, but also very good at passing, creating attack and long shots as well. Liverpool's midfield needs more creativity and rhythm, he will be the solution for the team. I am looking forward to seeing he plays for Liverpool and show his ability in Premier League matches.
Besides, Fulham's left back Paul Konchesky will join Liverpool soon, that means the left back dilemma will come to an end. It will be more better if Hodgson can bring in a quality striker to help Torres (e.g. Ola Toivonen 托禾倫 / Fernando Llorente 路蘭迪 / Bryan Ruiz 拜仁雷斯 / Ricky van Wolfswinkel 尹禾斯雲基 ...... but no Carlton Cole please!) in order to boost the attack as it is impossible to hope Torres on-form and score goals throughout the season ......
