Naturally most of us would respond in the way those nuns did under normaly circumstances. All of us are ---d in the way that A+ would be the result of A. It is alright to believe in the 'program' we have, but are we ready for things outside our expectation?
In school we are taught to get good marks and that is supposed to be our meal ticket for life. While we now stress on the 'knowledge-based' society, the adaptability of one is far more prominent in the success of individuals.
By saying adaptability, I mean being able to respond and adapt to situations outside of your expectation. For example, if we snack off at work and perform poorly, the big envelope's arrival would not be a surprise for us. (we expected it) But if we score big for our company by meeting our quota, we wouldn't expect the firing when we arrive at work, right? The ones that are good at adaptability would take a day of two off, and start looking at the options he/she has. Meanwhile, the stubborn ones may spend 1 week or more agonizing over the 'conspiracy' of the boss/company. It is easy to tell who gets a head start in job search.
There will be surprises in our life time, and they would often hit us when we are not ready for them.....the story of the nuns is a good reminder for us.
