Indeed.  Dennis Rodman did something similar back in 1997 and he was suspended for 11 games.  Sometimes, you have to wonder whether a one-man committee is good enough to make that kind of judgement for the league.

Rodman did the exact same thing and he was suspended for 11 games.  I think it's more because Rodman (and Artest, to that matter) was well known as a rebellious player while Francis is a star player.  Stern always give star players preferential judgement.
