Champions League lured Carrick to Man Utd

Manchester United summer signing Michael Carrick claims the prospect of Champions League football was a 'massive factor' in his decision to join the club.

The former Tottenham midfielder, who cost £18.6million, could only watch when United demolished Fulham 5-1 in the opening match of the season after picking up an ankle injury in the pre-season clash with Ajax.

'I've come here to win things but everyone expects us to do that,' he said.

'The squad believes we're capable of it. Whatever competition Manchester United are in, we're always going to be contenders. Champions League, Premiership, FA Cup, Carling Cup - we're always looking to win them. That's the big attraction.

'Playing in the Champions League was a massive factor in coming here. To be able to take part in some of of the huge games I've watched on the telly in the past is very exciting.

'It's another test, going up against the best in the world, It really is the highest level. Some say Champions League games are on a par, if not better, than the World Cup. I can't wait to be part of it,' Carrick said in `Inside United' - the official Manchester United magazine.

Carrick added: 'This is one of the biggest clubs in the world and to play in that stadium every week is going to be a great experience. The expectation and the belief within the squad are so high.

'I'm looking forward to being part of it, improving my game and becoming a better player. It's exciting times.'

He admitted he first heard about the possibility of the move to United while on World Cup duty in Germany.

'Obviously I had a little chat with the United lads who were out in Germany but there wasn't a lot anyone had to tell me about the club.

'As soon as I heard there was strong interest and the clubs were talking I was desperate to come. No-one could have changed my mind.'

A wish came true for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

some extracts from the interview of ole~ i like this part~ the way you feel eating your pre match meal. u can tell how serious he takes the game. props~~

"When you're recovering from injury you spend a lot of time on your own and it's the little things you miss," he says. "You miss the dressing room banter. You miss the preparation for the games, the adrenaline you get the night before a game and the way you feel eating your pre-match meal. I've been training for the last two years, it's not like I've been sat on my backside doing nothing, but it's the preparing for and playing games that I really missed."

If he carry on his form and keep performing, this could be one of the biggest come back in a while~~ he also scored a brace for norway few days ago.

Rossi's in safe hands

Wayne Rooney sought the advice of former West Ham youngsters Michael Carrick and Joe Cole to ensure Giuseppe Rossi is in good hands under Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder.

Rooney rates his Reds team-mate highly, so much so he believes the tiny Italian to be the club's most clinical finisher. However, the 19-year-old needs regular Premiership football, so he will spend at least four months on loan at St James' Park.

Roeder helped develop a clutch of current Premiership stars when he worked with the Upton Park club's academy, and was given glowing tributes from his former charges.

"I have talked to the likes of Michael Carrick and Joe Cole about the way Glenn Roeder brought them through at West Ham and the feeling at Old Trafford is that Giuseppe is in good hands with Newcastle," said Rooney.

Rossi, who was on Italian Under-21 international duty this week, should make his Magpies debut against Fulham this weekend. And Rooney is convinced he will be a hit at St James' Park.

"Giuseppe is a great player and one to watch out for," he added. "His touch, feel of the ball and awareness are brilliant. He is perhaps the best finisher at United and will only get better."

Hope we can see the mu's 3R flourish together soon~~

I Want To Ferget United

Ruud van Nistelrooy has insisted he wants to forget all about his Manchester United nightmare. Van Nistelrooy ended a five-year spell at Old Trafford during the summer when he joined Real Madrid in a £10.5million deal. The Dutch striker claims his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson broke down — ending with him being left out of last season’s Carling Cup final. Van Nistelrooy said: “The first three-quarters of last season went well for me but the final part was one best forgotten. My situation with Alex Ferguson started to change and it became difficult for me and him to work together. To me this felt like a stab in the back."
