Owen marriage blessed at mansion  

The happy couple have been together since their school days
England footballer Michael Owen and his new wife Louise Bonsall have held a blessing at their north Wales mansion the day after their surprise wedding.
They married in a private ceremony on Friday - one day earlier than planned - to deflect media attention.

The wedding is thought to have taken place at a Chester hotel, although the couple booked more than one venue.

England players David James and Jamie Carragher and German midfielder Dietmar Hamann attended the blessing.

But rumours that Owen's Real Madrid team-mate David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, were attending could not be confirmed.

Shrouded in secrecy

The blessing took place in a huge marquee in the grounds of Owen's Grade II listed mansion, Lower Soughton Hall, near the village of Northop, in Flintshire.

They had originally intended to get married there, but changed their mind after being told that, if a licence is granted for a marriage, the venue must be made available for other weddings for three years.

On Friday afternoon journalists were caught out as the Owen family slipped away.

It is believed the wedding happened at the Carden Park Hotel, in Chester, just before 1630 BST.

Plans for the wedding had been shrouded in secrecy for weeks.

The Owens, who met at Hawarden High School, live in the £2m house with two-year-old daughter Gemma Rose when Owen is not playing football in Spain.

Flintshire councillor Tony Sharps said earlier he had believed the wedding was to take place at the Carden Park Hotel on Saturday.

But he added the footballer had kept people guessing by booking another local venue.
