(23.8 Blackburn.) Blackburn Rovers have agreed terms with PSV Eindhoven for Dutch international Andre Ooijer, who will join the Premiership team for a fee in the region of €3.1m. The 32-year-old central defender, who was an ever-present in his country's World Cup side in Germany, is expected to sign a two-year contract.

(24.8 Portsmouth) Midfielder Pedro Mendes suffered a seizure after being struck in the head by the forearm of Manchester City defender Ben Thatcher during Wednesday's 0-0 draw in the Premiership. Mendes was taken to a hospital for additional tests and it was unclear how quickly he might recover. He will continue to be under medical and neurological supervision during the forthcoming week, said Portsmouth.

(25.8 Newcastle) Nigerian international striker Obafemi Martins has left Italian giants Inter for English club Newcastle United for a fee of €15m. He has signed a five-year contract after agreeing personal terms and passing medical tests. Martins, 21, scored 28 goals in 87 Serie A games.

(26.8 Bolton) Bolton Wanderers have paid a club-record transfer fee of €11.8m to sign the 27-year-old French striker Nicolas Anelka from Fenerbahce on a four-year contract. Anelka, who won the Champions League with Real Madrid, has previously played in the Premiership for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

(28.8 Man. Utd.) Defender Rio Ferdinand could miss England's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Andorra on Saturday and at Macedonia on September 6. The centre-back picked up a toe injury in Manchester United's 2-1 Premier League win at Watford. However, tests on Sunday revealed that Ferdinand has a bruised toe, not a broken one.

(28.8 Newcastle) Newcastle were forced to play for the last 30 minutes of Sunday's 2-0 loss at Aston Villa with 10 men after their new €15m signing Obafemi Martins was injured landing awkwardly in the 60th minute. Manager Glenn Roeder had already made all three substitutions by then. Roeder said Martins appeared to have suffered "a very bad dead leg", adding that he was optimistic the Nigerian striker would be fit for the September 9 league match against Fulham.

(30.8 Middlesbrough) Middlesbrough have reinforced their squad ahead of the closure of the transfer window by signing defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Robert Huth. Centre half Huth, 22, signed a five-year deal for €8.9m from English champions Chelsea while injury-plagued Woodgate, 26, agreed a one-year loan from Spanish giants Real Madrid. Middlesbrough also confirmed the signing of Charlton Athletic midfielder Jason Euell.

(31.8 Tottenham) Tottenham have agreed an undisclosed fee with Fulham for French midfielder Steed Malbranque, with midfielder Wayne Routledge moving in the other direction on a yearlong loan. Malbranque, 26, currently has a groin problem that's expected to sideline him for ten weeks. After breaking his foot on the opening day last season, Routledge, 21, played two games in December before going on loan to Portsmouth, where he played 13 matches. Tottenham have also agreed to sign France defender Pascal Chombonda from Wigan Athletic for a fee reported to be €8.9m.
