Manchester United have lost out to Real Madrid over Sao Paulo defender Cicinho.
Real have reached an deal with Sao Paulo that gives them first option to sign the 25-year-old, who could join Madrid in the January transfer window.
"Being signed by Real Madrid is the result of all the good work I've been making in my career," said Cicinho, who is a Brazil international.
"This agreement is good for all the parties - me, my managers and the Sao Paulo board. I'm delighted."
A statement on Real's website said: "Real Madrid, by means of this option, have the freedom to sign the player or not in the future if it considers it opportune."
Cicinho was in the Brazil team that won the Confederations Cup in Germany earlier in the summer and attracted interest from several clubs.
AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus were all said to be interested, while United flew in Cicinho to visit Old Trafford.
Cicinho is now determined to help Sao Paulo escape from the relegation zone in the Brazilian league.
"The is the time to think about Sao Paulo and I'm sure they will leave these bad moments. Real Madrid will come in January," he said.
Cicinho qualifies for a European passport through his grandfather and is extremely highly rated. |
